Dear Colleagues

I am writing to advise you that the next General Meeting of the CTTF will take place in Guangzhou, China within the week of the World Championships at the end of February in 2008. The exact date and venue has not yet been confirmed as we need to co-ordinate with the ITTF and their schedules of meetings to find the most convenient date. However, this will be advised to you within the next month.

I would like to bring you up to date with some developments within the CTTF. The main points are in connection with Glasgow. I am pleased to advise you that the Table Tennis Scotland and Glasgow City Council have accepted their option to stage the 2009 Commonwealth Championships. These Championships will be held at either the end of May or in early June 2009. I am currently working with Glasgow and the television authorities within the UK to find the most suitable date and will be able to advise you of the details as soon as they are confirmed.

I expect you will be aware by now that the Glasgow Bid to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games which was considered by the Commonwealth Games Federation in Sri Lanka was successful. Congratulations to Glasgow! I am also pleased to confirm that table tennis is included in the program on the same basis as for Manchester and Melbourne.

Arrangements are proceeding for the Youth Games in Pune, India for 2008. I have received confirmation from Mr. Prasad of Delhi 2010 in his e mail to me on 12th October, that team events will be included provided that the entries are sufficient. The team events will be on the basis of the Corbillion Cup system for both boys and girls: two players, two singles, a doubles and two singles up to a final result.

Please do your utmost to encourage your Commonwealth Games National Association or your Olympic Games Committee to include table tennis players in their squad for Pune.

With regard to the 2010 Games in Delhi, I visited their offices when I was in Delhi in the summer and, according to the information that I have received since, everything is in hand for a successful table tennis competition in the 2010 Games.

The next Championship that we need to consider is 2011. I am pleased to advise that I have already received a good bid from Pakistan, and I understand that a bid will be with me from Belfast very shortly. Full details of these bids will be presented to the meeting in China.

Should you have any items for the AGM Agenda in China, could you please let me have them by the end of December.

With best wishes
Alan Ransome

Commonwealth Table Tennis Federation

Dear Colleagues

Please find attached a copy of the minutes from the meetings in Zagreb and Jaipur.

I am pleased to be able to advise you that our Deputy President, Neil Harwood, was included in the Queen’s Honours List receiving the Medal of the Order of Australia . We are all delighted for Neil. This recognises his contribution to Australia and international table tennis over many years.

With regard to the Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune in October 2008, I am in discussions with the Commonwealth Games Federation to agree the programme. As you know from our meetings in Zagreb and Jaipur, we are recommending the inclusion of a 2 a side team event but this still has to be finalised.

71 of the 72 countries in the Commonwealth have indicated that they would like to participate in Pune. The organising committee are sending a circular to all of the CGAs this week asking for an indication of entry. The team event is not included in this circular but is under discussion with CGF.

It is important that if you wish to have some of your players included in your nation’s team for Pune that you contact your national CGF to put the case forward for at least 2 boys and 2 girls and in this case you would probably be entitled to a coach/official.

It would be helpful to know the progress that you are making in this respect. If I can be of any further assistance, please advise.

Best wishes

Alan Ransome
