4th Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships 1977

Once again the Championships were affected by non or late arrivals, necessitating the Referee working all night to re-schedule from four groups to two, in each competition. Nevertheless, a very successful Championships were held in this small Channel Island off the coast of France.

England was hosting the 1977 World's in Birmingham and, wishing to do well before the home TV cameras, did not send their top players to Guernsey.

At the same time Hong Kong produced several new players (ex-China) who won all the Golds, except the Women's Doubles won by England's Karen Witt and Melody Ludi. The Men's title being won by Li Kuang Tsu, a combination bat 'twiddler', and the Women's title by Chang Siu Ying, a classic Chinese 'pen gripper'.
